This is how “Northbound Train” came about.  I had friend that had an addiction.  He was a train wreck waiting to happen.  He lost his family, his friends, and his job.  Every morning I said a little prayer for him hoping that he would find that front porch with the light on.  After 2 years, I stopped praying for him.  The train wreck happened.  The LORD had his front porch light on.

Shortly after while in Neumea, New Caledonia at Bernard Talon’s house jamming in his basement, as we did many times,  Jean-Luc Leroux said let’s do Amy’s song, Northbound Train.  As fast as he said it, Bernard Talon played the cajon, Bertrand Seynat played bass, Jean-Luc Leroux played the guitar, and I sang the lyrics while playing my harp (except for the harp).  It was recorded right there in Bernard’s basement on Jean-Luc’s portable studio that day.  From New Caledonia, the song went right to Nashville to the home of Catherine Marx where she laid those catchy piano tracks.  Nashville’s talented Danny Parks then put on the electric guitar.  Lastly, off to Paris, France where Claude Langlois put on some amazing pedal steel guitar.

Lyrics

Northbound Train (Teaser Track 1 from Amy's Upcoming CD Release, "On My Way"

Verse 1
I ain’t out to catch nobody but you
Ain’t out to cash your check
Ain’t out to slander your name into the crowd
And I ain’t out to ring your neck
Chorus
Stepped off the Northbound train
Walked South along the track
Stepped off the Northbound train love
Hoping that you’ll carry me back

Verse 2
I ain’t out to judge what you say and how you do it
Ain’t out to wear your hat
Ain’t out to hammer a stake into the ground
Ain’t out the break your back

Chorus
Stepped of the Northbound train
Walked South along the track
Stepped off the Northbound train love
Hoping that you’ll carry me back

Bridge
Carry me back to a porch light on
Carry me back
Carry me from my gone wrong

Verse 3
I ain’t to mend nobody but you
Ain’t out to hold you back
Ain’t out keep all the messes that we’ve made
Ain’t out for things like that

Chorus with Bridge
Stepped off the Northbound train
Walked South along the track
Stepped off the Northbound train love
Hoping that you’ll carry me back
Carry me back to a porch light on
Carry me back
Carry me from my gone wrong
